Wow - I can't believe how many people are running for office in Oilton. I also am amazed that people are campaigning. I haven't seen this in years. I am very undecided on my votes. There are a few candidates that look pretty good, but I can't decide. I am not sure I even know who all is running. I know we have 3 for mayor - Clyde Humble, Pat Kennedy, and Jerry Green. We have several for city clerk - Karon Davis, Kim Baumgarten, Vicky Smith, and Leah Young. I am unsure who is running for what wards in city council. I know Marvin Baumgarten, Jimmy Smith, Stacey Green, and Mrs. McDaniel (her first name escapes me) are all running for council. Maybe somebody will help straighten this out for me. There are a lot of them. This is a good thing for Oilton, if the folks running are serious about wanting to do what is good for the town, and not trying to force their own agendas or vendettas on us. I am not saying that any of these folks have such things, but am just wondering aloud. An election with so many choices can be a great thing. If campaigning were to get nasty - and thankfully I haven't seen it - it would be very divisive for a town this size. I am happy to see the many choices, and the vigor in which they are going after their prize. The downside is I have to figure out who to vote for!!! Most of these folks have been here for an eternity - so who are you going to vote for???

I'm glad the elections are now over and everyone seems to have survived even if they or their favorite candidate was not elected. It was refreshing to see the campaigning and interest for a local election. My hope is that the city council, the new mayor included, will put aside any differences and do what is best for the city.

I agree - we now will see what these candidates had in their hearts. Hopefully they all want what is best for Oilton. I also want to give it up to the Baumgarten kids - I saw them pulling up all of their campaign signs the night of the election. That was impressive - the other folks need to follow suit. Congrats to those that won, and to those that didn't - thanks for trying. You all helped bring something back that I haven't seen in many years.

Of 921 registered voters, 680 voted. Almost 3/4's voter turnout.

That shocks me - I voted at 4:30 and the ballot box read 500 and some odd ballots (nearing 600 I believe) ballots (2 per person - unless you didn't live in the city limits.) That would be at the most close to 300 voters - so another 380 people had to vote in the next 2 1/2 hrs? Something seems ****** there. Maybe this was the second ballot box of the day or something. I don't know - does anybody have a valid explanation?

It sounded like a high number to me too. Maybe having the 2 ballots is why but that is what I was told that the posting said. I may go by there and add the numbers just to get an estimate.
Did the county question pass?
